As an Employment Mentor, I aim to establish a trusting relationship with individuals and set clear goals to provide guidance and support. The support offered includes employability skills and ‘wrap-around’ support to help the individual achieve emotional resilience needed to thrive in both work and life situations. The method of support aims to encourage individuals to set targets and work towards SMART goals which will help them to achieve their employment aims. The support may involve working in partnerships with other relevant agencies to each individual and is tailored to their specific needs. I will draw from my long and varied teaching and criminal justice experience in which I used Cognitive Behaviour Theory (CBT) to facilitate group work and 1-2-1 support. Practical support given will include 1-2-1 support and some group work tailored to meet each individual’s needs.
