FAQs
1. I am studying to be a counsellor, can I do a placement at Gasped?
To become a trainee counsellor for GASPED you need to be doing a diploma in counselling or be on a counselling degree course.
You will need to have completed all relevant modules required by your training provider and be signed off by them before placement can begin.
You will also have to be or become a student member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) which is our professional governing body.
You will also be required to have external clinical supervision in place.
2. Do I need counselling experience?
We do take on trainee counsellors but you will need to have completed the relevant modules required for yor higher national diploma in counselling or degree course.
We also take on qualified counsellors to work with us, this enables us to allocate more complex cases to more experienced counsellors.
3. Will I get paid?
Working with GASPED is done on a voluntary basis. We are unable to cover any costs.
4. How many hours will I need to commit to?
Hours required vary from 1 hr to 5 hrs whilst in training over 100hrs.
All our trainees start with one client then can take more as they progress but this depends on availability and therefore is not an expectation.
5. What support will I get from Gasped?
We offer 1 to 1 support and in house placement supervision to discuss how you are finding volunteering at GASPED. We will discuss with you what’s going well and what needs improving but this is not clinical supervision where casework is discussed.
6. How do I apply for a placement?
If you wish to be considered for a placement please email us and leave me your details and consent to keep on file so that we can contact you when a future placement becomes available.
8. I have no counselling experience can I still help Gasped?
You can still volunteer for GASPED to do non counselling roles, this might include helping with administrative work, marketing or in a leadership roles. Please contact resourcecentre@gasped.co.uk for more information.
